Core Study #7 - Blending Methods 2 –Direct application ‘wet on wet’ used for Creating Form - Direct painting is commonly known as alla prima or premier coup painting. This refers to a painting methodwhere the artist applies strokes of paint in one sitting, with the intention of letting it become the final application. There is no over-painting after the first layer of paint has dried. This technique was made popular by the impressionistic painters of the nineteenth century. Often used in photo realistic styles of painting. Both direct and indirect applications are combined to render form. This style of blending is quite structured. Initial layers are usually created by blending together opaque values using a controlled form of blending referred to as 'refined'. When the initial layers are dried, subsequent layers of opaque and transparent pigments render the final object. Complete One painting of Rosehips

Cost: $29.95 For Beginners and Beyond Core Class #9 - Blending Method # 4 - Block & Blend and Indirect Painting Method - Block & Blend as it is often called is also a combination of both indirect and direct painting methods. A majority of artists combine both applications to create a single painting. Initial layers are often blended directly, and after this first layer has dried, indirect applications of transparent colors are glazed over opaque layers to assist in the further creation of form. This style of blending also renders a painterly style of brushwork. If you love landscape painting, you'll really enjoy the second study in this course explores the true Indirect Painting Method:Learn the paint application made popular by the Old Masters. Multiple layers of paint are applied to create form, depth and luminosity. Beginning with transparent applications, the artist first creates the initial layer, next opaque layers are used to facilitate form, and subsequent transparent layers are applied to create the local color of objects.Complete 2 paintings (under-painting landscape and Bell pepper) Purchase here
